Hyalomma spp. ticks play an important role as vectors of several viral, bacterial, and protozoan pathogens in Eurasia and Africa and are non-indigenous tick species in Central Europe. On April 26, 2020, we found one male of Hyalomma rufipes Koch, 1844 at the same locality where another male of the same species was found the previous year (October 24, 2019). Based on weather data, bird arrivals, and the biology of Hyalomma species, we hypothesize that the adult H. rufipes might overwinter under local climatic conditions. This raises concern about possible future establishment of this medically important species in Central Europe.
