The article reflects the general situation of profane ceiling painting production in Central Europe after 1650. In such contexts, it interprets the painterly decoration of the Olomouc palace of the prince bishop Karl II of Lichtenstein-Castelcorno, executed by the Ticino painter Carpoforo Tencalla in 1674. The author explores the relation of the paintings and their motifs to the particular functions of the palace interiors.
