Knihovnám tohoto období zatím nebyla věnována dostatečná pozornost, přestože je zřejmé, že rukopisné i tištěné bible byly v druhé polovině 16. století nejen čteny, ale také se staly předmětem cíleného sběratelství. Nejrozsáhlejší soubory biblí se v českých zemích před rokem 1620 nacházely v knihovnách Rožmberků (10 000 knih, z toho 165 biblí) a Ferdinanda Hoffmanna z Grünbüchlu (téměř 4 000 knih, z toho 140 tištěných biblí a zřejmě několik desítek biblických rukopisů). Jejich srovnání ukázalo, že šlechtičtí majitelé věnovali svým sbírkám mimořádnou pozornost, avšak odlišným způsobem. Konfesionalita majitelů měla na podobu a zaměření jejich sbírek biblí omezený vliv: bible v obou knihovnách vedle symbolického vyjádření zbožnosti plnily především funkci sběratelského artefaktu. Description in English The existing research on the role of the Bible during the Reformation has focused primarily on period attempts to make the biblical text available to as many people as possible. On the contrary, book collections of this period have not received sufficient attention, even though it is obvious that both printed and manuscript Bibles were not only read during the second half of the 16th century, but they also became objects of purposeful collecting. The most extensive collections of Bibles in the Bohemian Lands prior to 1620 could be found in the libraries of the Rosenberg Family (the total of 10,000 books out of which 165 were Bibles) and of Ferdinand Hoffmann of Grünbüchl (almost 4,000 books out of which 140 were printed Bibles and there were probably also tens of biblical manuscripts). Their comparison showed that the owners from among the nobility paid extraordinary attention to their collections, yet in a slightly different manner. The owners’ confessionality influenced their Bible collections only to a limited extent - although the Bibles in both of the collections fulfilled a role of a symbolic expression of one’s religiousness, they served mainly as collectors’ items.
