We reconstructed 700 years spatio-temporal dynamics in forest management in Pálava Protected Landscape Area, Czech Republic. Historical forest management was coppicing. During the history, the coppice cycle was lengthened from 7 years (14th century) to more than 30 years (19th century) with a fluctuating density of standards. After WWII, coppicing was completely abandoned. This abandonment caused profound changes in forest structure. Spatial pattern of abandonment it was an irregular an depended only on topographic conditions. Attempts to reintroduce coppicing should consider the abandonment pattern.
