The aim of this study is to determine the energy dissipated during cavitation bubble collapse close to a rigid wall for different bubble radii and distances of the bubble from the wall. The bubble is generated by electric spark and the total energy of collapse is calculated from the difference between the energy required to grow the bubble to its first radius and the same energy for the second maximal radius. Impact loads are determined using the PVDF film and documented with time-resolved photography. The response of the shock pressure is monitored in the far field using the PVDF needle hydrophone. The energy of the shockwave propagated from the bubble origin at collapse is estimated from the measured data for different standoff distances.
