Geometric probability was for a long time directed by its possible applications in spatial games based on chance and in mathematical education. With the exception of one case no mathematicians have been thinking about its practical application. On the other hand, practical rules of estimation were proposed without proof, which would be trivial in several cases. A short account of these two parallel ways will be given.
