AnnotationCobalt oxide Ca3Co4O9 is considered to be potential candidate for thermoelectric power generators because of the high thermal and chemical stability in air, easy manufacturing process, low cost and nontoxicity. The aim of this work was to distinguish which Co cation undergoes the observed spin transitions by measuring thermal expansion of individual subsystems of the misfit structure using combination of X-ray and neutron diffraction. The structure refinement of the misfit structure is performed with the help of JANA program.
