Annotation	The participants (a total of 130 from 17 countries from all over the world) had a unique opportunity to present and discuss the results of contemporary genetics. A total of 61 lectures were divided in 9 symposia: Angiogenesis, Remodeling, Atherosclerosis, Cardiomyopathies, Hypertension, Conduction system and arrhythmias, Ischemia and protection, Mitochondria and Therapeutic approaches. The integral part of the meeting was the ceremonial presentation of the highest honour of the Academy, the Medals of Merit to outstanding cardiologists from Germany and Great Britain
