In this chapter, I compare China's performance and future challenges with those of the Central and East Europe (CEE) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries. In presenting data and examples from the CEE and CIS regions, I refer to all 27 transition economies, but I focus primarily on comparing China's experience with that of the five Central European countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia), three Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania), three Balkan countries (Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania), and two CIS countries (Russia, Ukraine).

V této kapitole porovnávám výkonnost Číny a budoucí výzvy se Střední a Východní Evropou (CEE) a společenství nezávislých států (CIS). V předkládaných datech ze států CEE a CIS se odkazuji na všech 27 zemích, ale hlouběji se zaměřuju na pět států Střední Evropy (ČR, Maďarsko, Polsko, Slovensko a Slovinsko), tři baltské země (Estonsko, Lotyšsko a Litva), tři balkánské země (Bulharsko, Chorvatsko a Rumunsko) a dvě CIS země (Rusko a Ukrajina).
