The idea, based on earlier electrostatic calculations, is confirmed by results of ab initio quantum chemical claculations carried out on oligomers of the photoconducting .sigma.-conjugated silicon polymer(poly[methyl(phenyl)silylene] containing a photochromic spiropyran derivative attached to the chain via a spacer.
