The systematic position of this genus within Cobitoidea was always unclear. It the present study we have analyses DNA and karyotype of Ellopostoma mystax. The results were compared with the representatives of all main cobitoid lineages and several representatives of Cyprinoidea. The results of phylogenetic analyses show that Ellopostoma belongs among Cobitoidea and represents an independent lineage. The karyotype of Ellopostoma is typical for most of Cobitoidea.

Systematické umístění tohoto rodu v rámci Cobitoidea bylo až doposud neujasněné. V této práci byla analyzována DNA a karyotyp druhu Ellopostoma mystax. Výsledky byly porovnány se zástupci všech hlavních linií nadč. Cobitoidea and několika zástupci nadč. Cyprinoidea. Výsledky fylogenetických analýz ukazují, že Ellopostoma patří mezi Cobitoidea a tvoří samostatnou linii. Karyotyp rodu Ellopostoma je typický pro většinu Cobitoidea.
