AnnotationThe COMPASS-U (Bt = 5 T, Ip = 2 MA, R = 0.894 m, a = 0.27 m) will be the successor of the COMPASS tokamak which is the main experimental facility of the Tokamak Department at the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The mail goals of this project will be to enlarge the COMPASS operational space and improve its performance. Additionally, COMPASS-U will examine some of the important challenges in the Plasma Exhaust Physics (PEX). The COMPASS Upgrade requires a new design of the whole structure of the device. Central Solenoid is one of the most important parts of the tokamak in the design process. In this paper we present preliminary stage of Central Solenoid mechanical analysis. Mechanical analysis using Finite Element Method (FEM) includes calculations with 2D axisymmetric numerical model of the one layer of full conductor and conductor with cooling holes configurations. Furthermore, mechanical analyses of the whole stack of eight coils in different configurations are presented. The analysis takes into account the most vital phases of the magnet's operation like cooling down and powering of the magnet. Results for stack of eight coils are presented for scenario: premagnetization of coils (t=3.26 s) without plasma. Calculated scenario is an extreme case of loading for maximal possible parameters. Optimization of mechanical design was not done yet and it is planned in further steps of tokamak design.
