The presented study analyzes changes of the overall societal environment in Czechoslovakia in the late eighties of the 20th century. It focuses on political climate, economic situation and activities of the newly established independent initiatives. Furthermore, the study deals with issues of an increased number of complaints coming from citizens, who turned to different party and government bodies.
