Příspěvek se věnuje účelu Thúkýdidova poměrně dlouhého pojednání o regentu Pausaniovi a o Themistokleovi. Autor navrhuje, že Thúkýdidés záměrně sepsal příběh s některými hérodotovskými prvky a historicky problematickými tvrzeními, aby přiměl čtenáře odhalit tyto nedostatky a tím spíše se soustředit na hlavní poučení v Thúkýdidově popisu peloponnéské války samotné.

The article deals with the purpose of Thucydides’ longish treatments of the regent Pausanias and of Themistocles. It is suggested that Thucydides intentionally wrote accounts containing some Herodotean traits and historically questionable assertions, in order to make the reader discover these deficiencies and concentrate all the more on the lessons in Thucydides’ narrative of the Peloponnesian War itself.
