Allogeneic skin transplantation is usually associated with deleterious inflammatory reaction and requires administration of high doses of immunosuppressive drugs. Mesenchymal stem cells due to their regenerative and immunosuppressive properties offer a great potential for the cell therapy. We confirmed that locally applied mesenchymal stem cells in combination with cyclosporine A induce a switch in macrophage to a phenotype that reduce the local inflammatory reaction and support wound healing
