AnnotationHigh energy electrons - so called runaway electrons - are generated in tokamaks under particular conditions. These electrons are accelerated in the electric field of tokamak almost without collisions with thermal particles nearly to the speed of light and present a serious threat to the future fusion reactors. Detectors based on the Cherenkov radiation have been developed and implemented for the last couple of years. Such a detector may provide high temporal and well define position of measurements. A unique feature of Cherenkov type detector lies in the possibility of direct observation of runaway electron and therefore it is not an indirect method based on measurements of secondary X-rays and neutrons. Runaway electron (RE) studies are intensively carried out at the COMPASS tokamak. Main focus of this work is the analysis of data from Cherenkov detector and characterization of runaway electrons under different conditions. Post-disruption runaway electron beam, link between losses of runaway electrons and MHD instabilities and radial dependence of Cherenkov radiation are investigated. Runaway electron studies are also performed on GOLEM tokamak, focusing on the study of RE generation and characterization of resulting HXR radiation.
