Natural convection from a pair of horizontal cylinders was experimentally investigated in water at continuous and pulsating heating regimes. Flow and thermal fields were investigated by PIV and LIF experiments. The pulsating heating was used at the subharmonic frequency of 0.25 Hz and the Rayleigh numbers were from 250 to 1800. For continuous heating, a pair of laminar plumes was generated. The heat transfer data correspond very well to the representative correlations. For pulsating heating, flow and thermal fields were effectively controlled and unsteady vortex structures were generated.
