Electrically induced microextractions across tailor-made liquid membranes have been shown as an efficient tool for pretreatment of complex samples. Selectivity and efficiency of EMEs are determined mainly by the composition of the liquid membrane and by the applied electric field and can be efficiently optimized. Excellent sample clean-up and high enrichment factors can be obtained at optimized conditions making EMEs very attractive for microextractions of ionic analytes from various samples.
