[n]Helicenes, a class of intriguing compounds with fully conjugated aromatic system and a non-planar topology, have attracted considerable attention due to their unique properties and potential applications.1 Our revised photodehydrocyclization approach to a multi-gram scale production of 9-bromo-[7]helicene2 allowed us to explore the reactivity of this compound mainly in palladium catalysed carbon – carbon and carbon – heteroatom coupling reactions.3 Many of the reactions were performed in the microwave reactor keeping reaction time to a minimum compared with conventional synthetic methods. A novel portfolio of B, C, N, P, O, S substituted [7]helicenes can undergo further synthetic reactions or can be used on a field of molecular electronics, surface chemistry, catalysis etc.
