The quality of castings has been optimized by utilizing high-power ultrasound for solidifying of the melt. The subsequent thermomechanical treatment of such an as-cast alloy is usually difficult, mainly because of fraying and cracking of the formed alloy. The main reason for the poor quality of such hot-formed products is the thermal shock arising at the surface of the hot casting, when the casting is coming into contact with the cold roller or press. A special stainless steel bandage of the casting solved the problem successfully. Workplace Institute of Physics Contact Kristina Potocká, potocka@fzu.cz, Tel.: 220 318 579 Year of Publishing 2012
