Hyperaccumulation of Ag by A. strobiliformis, which appear to be the first eukaryotic organism known to hyperaccumulate this metal. Mass spectrometry (MALDI TOF/TOF) data on Ag-sequestration identified a 17-amino acid (aa) peptide fragment containing two Cys-aa-Cys motifs characteristic for metallothioneins.
