Její jméno bývá zmiňováno nejčastěji v souvislosti s výzkumem chování dětí na "zrakovém útesu", při němž demonstrovala jejich schopnost rozlišovat hloubku už v útlém batolecím věku. Gibsonová je autorkou dodnes vlivné teorie percepčního vývoje zdůrazňující úlohu afordance a diferenciace. Description in English In the article, the contribution of Eleanor Gibson to modern psychology is remembered. Gibson's work helped to bring the study of perceptual and cognitive development into the experimental framework. She is widely renown for her research of infant behaviour in the proximity of visual cliff in which she demonstrated capability to visually distinguish depth as early as at the age of six and half months when children begin to locomote. Gibson is the author of still influential developmental theory according to which perceptual learning is done through a processes of affordance and differentiation.
