Skripta poskytují přehled vývoje věd během renesance a novověku (zhruba od pol. 15. stol. do konce 18 stol.) v kontextu rozvoje filosofie od Mikuláše Kusánského do I. Kanta. Důraz je položen na problematiku kosmologie, vzestup mechanicismu v biologii a medicíně, na matematizaci přírodovědy a využití poznatků daných zeměpisnými objevy. Ústředním bodem výkladu jsou různé odpovědi na Descartovu filosofii (newtonské paradigma, okasionalismus, Vicova kritická metoda, Spinozův monismus, pansofické snahy, monadologie).

The textbook deals with the history of science during the Renaissance and the modern period (15th-18th centuries) in the context of the development of philosophy from Cusanus to Kant. The accent is put on problems of cosmology, the rise of mechanism in biology and medicine, mathematization of the natural sciences, and evaluating of topics given by geographical discoveries. Various responses to Cartesian dualistic philosophy represent a central point of author’s explanation (Newtonian paradigma, occasionalism, critical method of Vico, Spinoza’s monism, pansophical efforts, monadology).
