A pesquisa historiográfica emergente está demonstrando uma crescente e inédita visibilidade dos ciganos no início do século 20 no Brasil. Nesta apresentação vou oferecer um panorama desta pesquisa até hoje. Com base em minha própria investigação relacionada à Bahia, analisarei então o contexto social que deu origem a tal visibilidade.
Emerging historiographical research is demonstrating a growing and unprecedented visibility of the Romani people in early 20th century Brazil. In this presentation I will provide an overview of this research to date. Based on my own research related to Bahia, I will then analyse the social context that gave rise to such visibility.
