AnnotationThe aim of this work is comparison of ability of prepared organo-smectite composites for the removal of diclofenac (DC) from aqueous environment due to increasing wastewater pollution related to high consumption of pharmaceuticals, mainly widely prescribed non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The montmorillonite (MMT), beidellite (BEI), hectorite (HEC) and nontronite (NTN) were modified with benzalkonium chloride (BA) and prepared composites were checked as potential sorbents for analgesic drug DC from aqueous solutions. Obtained results suggest, that the modification of smectites can lead to preparation of potential inexpensive materials with sufficient sorption efficiency (above 90%) for the removal of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs from aqueous solution with respect to their occurrence in relatively low concentrations in wastewaters.
