Kombinace těchto dvou faktorů, t.j. sofistikované detekční strategie a možnosti používání extrémně nízkých dopadových energií primárního svazku, vede k možnosti zisku nových kontrastů a preciznější charakterizaci struktury ocelí.
Description in English Modern scanning electron microscopes (SEM) are equipped with very sophisticated detection system and allow to observe the surface of samples at different impact energies of primary electrons. The signal electrons are very efficiently filtered based on their emission angle and the energy with which they where emitted from the sample. Filtering of signal electrons allows us to optimize the imaging conditions in the microscope and obtain the required information about the sample. SEM instruments can be operated on a wide range of accelerating voltages, from 30 keV up to eV units. The combination of these two factors, i.e. sophisticated detection strategies and the possibility of using extremely low impact energies of the primary beam, leads to the possibility of gaining new contrast and more precise characterization of the steel structure. The aim of this study is to demonstrate advantages of modern scanning electron microscopy for the study of steels. specific applications will be presented, such as imaging of individual phases in high-strength steels, imaging of fine Mn oxides on the steel surface, mapping of the Laves phase in COST F steel, study of surface layers and more.
