Širokou škálu vzácných látek s pozoruhodnými vlastnostmi pro zdravotnictví, výživu, krmiva, biotechnologie i další průmyslové využití nabízejí, trochu paradoxně, mikroskopické řasy. Úkolem vědců není jen najít jejich nejužitečnější kmeny, ale také vypracovat účinné metody, jak je pěstovat a poté z nich prospěšné sloučeniny získat. Ani jedna etapa na této cestě není snadná.

Paradoxically, a wide range of rare substances with remarkable properties for health care, nutrition, feed, biotechnology and other industrial applications is offered by microscopic algae. The task of scientists is not only to find their most useful strains, but also to develop effective methods to grow them and then obtain beneficial compounds from them. Neither stage on this path is easy.
