Carbon is frequently used as an additive that facilitates fine ball-milling of hydrogen storage (HS) alloys. It is commonly supposed that the carbon does not take part significantly in HS above the room temperature. In the present paper, hydrogen sorption in three carbon allotropes (carbon black, graphite and modified carbon nano-plates) and in magnesium silicate mohohydrate (talc) was studied in temperature interval from 423 to 623 K. HS capacity from about 0.4% wt.% H2 (talc) to about 1.1% wt.% H2 (carbon black) was observed at a hydrogen pressure of 25 bar. The HS in all the studied materials was very weakly temperature activated.
