AnnotationThe authors investigated a new approach to improving the effectiveness ofdetecting trace amounts of illegal substances, such as those on clothing ofpersons who have come into recent contact with explosives. An annular synthetic jet, generated by a simple and inexpensive non-moving-part fluidic oscillator operating at infrasonic frequencies protects the sample on its path – from the clothing surface to the inlet in an analyser – and prevents its dilution and escaping into the atmosphere.
