Kniha analyzuje vývoj patriotického cítění a národního vědomí moravských Němců v průběhu 19. století. Významné historické události nebo procesy člení sledovaný vývoj do čtyř period. První tvoří čas osvícenského patriosmu, druhou představují revoluční léta 1848/1849 s prvním velkým vzepětím národních hnutí ve střední Evropě, následovala 60. a 70. léta, kdy triumfoval liberalismus s konceptem rakouského státního patriotismu. V závěru 19. století sílilo německé národní vědomí na úkor ostatních složek kolektivní identity.

The book deals with the development of patriotic feelings and national consciousness of Moravian Germans during the 19th century. Four historical turning-points divide this survey into four periods: the time of enlightened patriotism, the time of the revolution 1848/1849 (that was accompanied by the first great rise of national movement in Central Europe), the time of liberalism of 1860s/1870s (with the notion of Austrian liberal state patriotism) and the time of strengthened German nationalism et the end of 19th century.
