Induction heating of cylindrical billets by their rotation in uniform magnetic field seems to be a prospective technology characterized by higher efficiency than heating in static systems. The paper deals with numerical modeling of the process with the aim to find the optimal distribution of the field coils under the condition of the same magnetomotive force. Magnetic field in the system (together with the distribution of the volume Joule losses and drag torque) is determined by the method of integrodifferential equations developed and programmed by the authors. The temperature field is calculated by the classical finite element method. The mechanical transient accompanying the startup of rotation is also taken into account. The methodology is illustrated on a typical example whose results are discussed.
