Conference sessions: long-term development of reservoir ecosystems, physical limnology and spatial heterogeneity, biogeochemical cycles and seiment-water interactions, biotic interactions and biomanipulation, reservoir fisheries, geographic peculiarities of reservoirs, tropical limnology of reservoirs. The knowledge of reservoir limnology, its implications for reservoir operation and management and the understanding of their complex ecosystems and specific features are growing, as documented at the Conference. It is desirable to use existing limnological knowledge not only for sustainable management and operation of existing reservoirs, but to exploit it in the very first stage of new reservoir planning. The aspects of water quality are coupled with water quantity issues, abiotic and biotic processes are bound in complex interactions, limnologists and engineers should speak a common language. Models are important and useful tools. Workplace Institute of Hydrobiology (until 2005) Contact Václava Lavičková, lavickova@hbu.cas.cz, Tel.: 387 775 889 Year of Publishing 2003
