Polytetrafluroethylene (PTFE) was exposed to the ultraviolet light of a Xe-excimer lamp and subsequently grafted with alanine. This treatment improved the adhesion of vascular smooth muscle and endothelial cells as well as fibroblasts. The material is promising for construction of artificial vascular prostheses and skin substitutes.
