Production-ecological study of aquatic macrophytes was carried out in two bays of Lake Ladoga, N. Russia, of different nutrient status. The water of Impilahti bay receives a quantity of nutrients from agricultural areas and domestic sources through inflowing rivers, whereas Haukkalahti bay is almost entirely devoid of human influences, so that its water quality is similar to that of the areas of the lake. In Impilahti, 61 macrophyte species and 18 macrophyte communities were found, while only 21 macrophyte species with 6 communities in the oligotrophic bay of Haukkalahti.
