Studie představuje sbírku povídek Pavilon hrůzy J. Hlouchy v kontextu ostatní autorovy tvorby a její textové historie i kontextu nakladatelských osudů jeho děl. Text rovněž analyzuje, jak kniha zapadala do dobového psaní o Japonsku a jak navazovala na tradiční žánr japonské slovesnosti, tzv. kaidan, tedy často strašidelně laděný “příběh o podivném”.

The study presents J. Hloucha's short story collection Pavilon hrůzy (Pavilion of Horror) in the context of the author's other works and their textual history, as well as in the context of publishing fate of his books. The text also analyzes how the book fits into contemporary writing about Japan and relates to the traditional genre of Japanese vernacular called kaidan, an often hauntingly atmospheric “tale of the strange things.”
