The paper is a responding to the publication by Zhong et al.: 4-alkyl-L-(Dehydro) proline biosynthesis in actinobacteria involves N-terminal nucleophile-hydrolase activity of γ-glutamyltranspeptidase homolog for C-C bond cleavage. Nat. Commun. 8, 16109 (2017), in which the authors improperly deduced the order of reactions in the biosynthesis of 4-alkyl-L-proline derivative precursors of lincomycin and anthramycin. Based on the results of our research we documented the propper order of the reaction steps and wa also elucidated the mode of action of one of participating enzymes.
