Editors have created a discourse of styles and different, often incomparable cultures. Visual discourse through reproductions published in UM should support universal status of "new art", as members of the group labeled the type of art to which they were heading. According to what key they assessed such diverse works, like the Donatello, Tintoretto or Chinese scroll or Indian miniature? They were convinced that the analysis of form is the way to the acceptance of a very culturally and historically remote work. Their concept of form was kind of fulfillment of Alois Riegl´s concept of Kunstwollen. Form is immanent, metaphysical. It is the only sign of high artistic performance.
