AnnotationAs opposed to the retropepsins from human pathogens like HIV-1 and HIV-2, the miscellaneous viral retropepsins discussed in this chapter have in most cases never been isolated and/or characterized as chemical species and there is very limited information available regarding their structure, activity and biological relevance. Given the lack of experimental data for most of these putative enzymes, the authors slightly modify the structure of this chapter giving a brief overview of the limited amount of information available regarding the proteolytic machinery of individual viruses and deal only with the structure and activity of those enzymes for which experimental data are available.
