AnnotationThis special issue is devoted to chemical engineering in the Czech Republic. Readers familiar with this enormous scientific field might wonder about the selection of articles. In our defence, it is impossible to cover the vast range of topics, from theory to experiment, from basic research to industrial design, so we decided to limit ourselves to several essays about the past, present, and future of Czech chemical engineering, which is largely rooted in two institutions: the Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals (Academy of Sciences) and the Prague Institute of Chemical Technology (Technical University). This overview is updated by articles attempting to illustrate what is currently going on, and we are painfully aware that much has been left out.
