Seasonal changes of soil nematodes and fungus fruiting bodies were studied in a 50-60 year old spruce forest near České Budějovice, for one year using monthly sampling. The total mean abundance of nematodes was 1220 x 1000 ind.m2, the biomass 226 mg.m2. Species of Filenchus, Plectus, Aphelenchoides, Acrobeloides, and Heterocephalobus were the most abundant nematodes. A prominent increase in nematode population densities occurred in September and in October and coincided with abundant fungus fruiting bodies in the spruce forest understorey. Nematode trophic relationships and seasonal changes are discussed.
