AnnotationIsotactic polypropylene modified by a specific .beta. nucleation agent was exposed to UV photo-degradation and characterized by x-ray diffraction and tensile testing. A decrease of the content of the crystalline .beta. phase and an increase of the size of the .beta. crystallites indicated an allotropic .beta.-.alpha. re-crystallization. A decrease of the strain at break was ascribed to the formation of surface microcracks. The results are discussed in relation to the effect of thermal aging.
