Annotation	This is the introduction to the edited volume on “the algebrization of mathematics during the 17th and 18th centuries”. It surveys the main topics dealt with in the volume: the meaning of algebrization, the notions of giants and dwarfs as historiographical categories, and the notions of centres and peripheries from the viewpoint of the recent scholarship.
