This chapter focuses on how the one-sided emphasis on simulating a globally comparable competitiveness of R&D outputs through success in databases such as WoS or Scopus disrupts the necessary links between science and a particular historical community, especially the links between science and the cultural public, science and education. It focuses on these trends using the example of the Czech Republic, where, according to the author, the historical constellation (especially the predominance of the doctrinaire approach in the period of post-communist transformation and the situation of a small nation) emphasises them like in a convex mirror.
