Těsně po válce se Maffie těšila postavení vlivné instituce se značným morálním kreditem, respektovaným většinou české veřejnosti. Zdůrazňování spolupráce mezi zahraniční protirakouskou rezistencí a domácím odbojem reprezentovaným Maffií představovalo pro vedoucí elity mladé republiky v prvních poválečných letech důležitý argument při zdůvodňování a obhajobě uspořádání nového státu. Zároveň jim umožňovalo opírat se o jednotný dominantní vzorec výkladu minulosti a s jeho pomocí dále utvářet kolektivní paměť a identitu svých spoluobčanů, formovat nové státní tradice a odvozovat i vlastní politicko-historickou legitimitu. Description in English The name Maffie is used to describe a secret organisation which is said to have headed the Czech local anti-Austrian resistance during the First World War and actively helped Masaryk’s foreign resistance to fight against the existence of the Habsburg Empire. Shortly after the war, the Maffie had a status of an influential institution with significant moral credit and respected by the majority of the Czech public. Emphasis on the cooperation between foreign anti-Austrian resistance and local resistance represented by the Maffie, provided the leading elites of the new republic in the first after-war years with an important argument for justification and defence of the organisation of the new state. It also allowed them to lean on a single dominant model of interpreting the past and with its help continue shaping the collective memory and identity of their fellow citizens, form new state traditions, as well as establish their own political and historical legitimacy.
