AnnotationThe experimental setup for accurate T-2* mapping of Achilles tendon and enthesis was developed. The setup consists of a specially designed MR compatible RF coil holder and custom-made ultrashort echo time (UTE) pulse sequence. The performance of the UTE sequence was tested and compared with data obtained by variable echo time (vTE) sequence. The results showed that T-2* values calculated with vTE are overestimated in comparison to UTE, however, the clinical adaptation of vTE might be easier, since it provides more slices with reduced blurring and lower scan times.
