Azoles are the group of systemic fungicides broadly used in agriculture for protection of crops against fungal pathogens. Their action lies in the inhibition of two enzymes reponsible for biosynthesis of sterols. However, the biosynthesis of sterols has similar scheme for most living organisms. lt means that azoles influence not only the fungal pathogens but also non-target species including soil organisms, plants and eventually organisms in the end or the food chain such as human. The impact of azoles is described only for individual pure azoles or indirectly as the symptoms. As the environmental system is too complex and complicated it not described yet what exactly happens there. To even estimate all possible reactions, it is essential to describe the azoles interaction systematically in simplified model systems first.
