Introduction of high resolution continuum source AAS spectrometers (HR-CS) brings new possibilities into the field of trace element analysis such as detection of new analytes via absorption spectra of molecules or simultaneous multielement analysis and isotopic analysis. New applications of AAS to determination and fractionation of nanoparticles, speciation analysis as well as solid sampling analysis are discussed. Preconcentration procedures compatible with AAS detection and current trends in volatile compound generation and atomization techniques are outlined.
