AnnotationThe Ubuntu principle, popularized by Archbishop Desmond Tutu presiding over the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in the New South Africa, has potential to assist Western philosophical conceptions of forgiveness in envisioning transformative justice. Aspects of Ubuntu overlap with the Western feminist inspired ethic of care while departing from Western ethics with its emphasis on spirituality and communalism.
