AnnotationThe concept of the Coherent Potential for disordered electron systems is reviewed in view of the modern Dynamical Mean Field Theory. First, the original quantum mechanical approach is summarized. Then many-body construction of the generating functional for the Coherent Potential Approximation as the limit to infinite lattice dimensions is presented. Finally, transport properties and problems with extensions of the local mean-field approximations are reviewed.
