AnnotationTwo-dimensional photonic crystals (2D PhC) are periodic structures with periodicity spanning in the horizontal plane. Diamond with its optical transparency in the wide spectral range and large bandgap provides an outstanding platform for the development of the new class of 2D PhCs. Diamond can be fabricated either as single-crystal diamond plate but also in the form of polycrystalline diamond film. To fabricate a polycrystalline diamond-based 2D PhCs on SiO2 substrates we applied two different fabrication strategies: i) dry etching of the continuous diamond film and ii) diamond growth on periodically structured substrates. We will discuss the influence of the diamond PhC dimensions and structural quality on the (out)coupling of light by comparing the results of transmission measurements.
